Taking Time

As mentioned in a few previous post ,this has been a busy summer.6 and 7 day weeks have been the norm since the middle of April
Tonight I took some time to just take a walk around the grounds. After a disastrous spring vegetables are growing .Actually planted a row of collard greens.Probably too late but they are in the ground
Off in the distance I heard my first Great Horned Owl of the fall(late summer).I hope he helps eradicate a few of the rabbits that have eaten through the fence around the garden and are eating all my late greens
The most important thing I noticed was that the bees were every where pollinating the raspberries .All of the bees were bumble bees .I did not see one honey bee in the hundreds that were out there.
We are putting up the nets tomorrow in the hopes of getting a few berries before the catbirds find their way in.

RUDY

These are not my words. They are from the Drake

If the face of a dog can't get you, what can? I always pretended to be tough, like I was really going to train him.Teach him some good discipline."Does your dog get human food?".No.Absolutely never unless he looks at me just the right way,in which case he may end up with a slab of salmon right off the plate."Is he a good fishing dog?"well that depends. If by"good fishing dog"you mean he jumps in the water to get fish, occasionally runs downstream, and always gets forgiven, then yes he's a great fishing dog.

I put my lab down two weeks ago .13 yrs with me on every fishing trip I took.
He did get a keeper bass once and retrieved more than a few pheasants

300 miles today

Left the house this AM at 6:30 to pick up a 16 passenger van in NJ.Drove 10 mile to town. Picked up the Jitney to Manhattan. 3hrs later was standing on the corner of 86th and 3rd waiting for a limo .5 min. later it took me to Little Ferry NJ to get the van.Hopped in the van drove the 120 miles back to the Shelter Island ferry .A 20 min ride later I was on the Island. Dropped off the van.Back to the ferry as a walk on .Got off the boat and walked 500 ft to my truck that I had left off 8.5 hrs earlier and was home buy 3:30

New Fans

I think I have posted this picture before. With all the rain we have had this spring I just wanted to say that these fan-tastics have worked perfectly .They must open a close all day long with every passing shower.Yesterday it rained all day and they were closed tight as a whales ass! ( water tight) .This morning when I left for work before the sun was completely up they were open and ready to go .I just walked past them on my way in and they are circulating air beautifully.

Rhodos

This is the same rhodo seen in the feeder post .How could any Hummingbird resist? I don't even know if the feed on the nectar . Most rhodos and azaleas have toxins in them
