Lost and Found

Just found this great old surf story on the web.

What began as an ordinary day spent at a flea market in Los Angeles transformed into a life-changing event for surf aficionado Doug Walker but also marked an important moment in surf culture. In 2007, the commercial film editor stumbled upon previously lost 30,000 negative film strips which documented the world of surfing of the 1970s. Frozen in time, the spirit of the sport was beautifully captured by talented counterculture photographers in raw and powerful images. The 2011 Lost and Found movie featured the handful of photographers and well-known surfers appearing in the archive, but the journey was only beginning. After traveling the world, researching the stories further and adding more images to the collection, Walker created a large format coffee-table book that pays homage to the photographers and surfers, and introduces the artworks to the world.

Its called Fishing for a Reason

The Beaverkill

First time I fished this great river was in 1967,on my way home from college in the middle of some fly hatch .I had no idea what was going on as I cast my worms . Couldn't see out the windows there were so many flies smashed on the windshield.

Penn reel part 2 and you tube

This is what precipitated this whole thought.  It jammed on Friday on a fishing trip. Maybe has 10 trips on it.Went to the tube typed in 320 gti .It took about and hour and a few attempts at figuring out the mess I had.
I had  removed the wrong screws trying to get the  side off. When the cover came off the whole thing landed in a pile of gears and drag washers. I cleaned ,oiled ,greased all and realize how simple it all was to re assemble. All Penns are basically the same.  The video that showed me all was one about a Penn Senator.

Penn 704Z..

I have 6. The oldest I bought in 1974,"Greenie". The newest I got on eBay for about $60 barely used 3 weeks ago .You can find these for about 1/10th the cost of one of those billet reels. I fish about 4 days a week when the fish are running in the fall. They have never failed me.

Instant Karma

I live in two places .It has bothered me that I couldn't get fresh greens for salads in the winter place so I planted these a few weeks ago.  I have since added three more of those 20 gallon bags.  When I head north in the spring I'll dump the dirt in the beds and around citrus trees, fold every thing up  for next yr. Cabbage, broccoli, three kinds of lettuce and 4 tomato plants all grown in composted cow manure from the local big box.I put the tomatos right inthe Black kow bags  Lots of dainage hole on he bottom

Clogged Spark Arrester

Until a half an hour ago I didn't even know it existed  My 13 yr old weed wacker suddenly stopped working  It would start but not rev up .Everyone I spoke to said fuel.  I changed the fuel ,then the filter ,then line ,then primer bulb, then the vent, then the plug.  I was about to throw it in the corner because a new carb was probably more than I spent for the machine  when I bought it.
I tried You tube and wallah  there was the vid.
A little Mapp gas, let it cool, some lock- tite and started on third pull.

Big Game Fishing in Five Feet of Water - Anglers Journal

Big Game Fishing in Five Feet of Water - Anglers Journal: Artist Derek DeYoung was headed back to the dock recently after a fishless day that involved plenty of casting to plenty of tarpon in Coupon Bight off Big Pine Key, Florida. Only problem was, the poons all had lockjaw. “After pulling my hair out for a couple of hours, I’m headed home and I want to get working on a painting,” recalls DeYoung, a talented fish painter and lifelong angler from Michigan who winters with his wife, Janell, in the Florida Keys. A short aside: I’ve been talking with DeYoung for several months as he worked on a tarpon painting …
