Mallet

This was one of my first attempts at wood turning,I made it from wood heading to the dumpster from one of my son Ian's projects. The head is greenheart which is one of the species that the local government allows to be put in the bay as a pile .The handle is IPE also known as Brazilian walnut .Both are extremely weather resistant .But I don't think they are going to be available for long at the rate they are cutting it down in South America.
Not the easiest wood to turn .It was rock hard when I started this little project. It weighs about 3 pounds

I'm pretty sure stanley rendered the wooden mallet obsolete oh about a hundred years ago.

Not really .All the wood catalogs are full with them .They are usually made from some very dense exotic wood .Google the "old tool" message board and look at some of the beauties those guys put together

Mmm my bad, next time I finish some delicate woodwork I won't forget to break out my trusty wooden mallet. Or better yet, next time I am helping the Ringling Bros. set up up the main tent I'll be sure to break it out.

You don't have to be doing fine woodworking .If you had a descent set of wooden handled chisels you wouldn't be beating the piss out of them with one of Mr Stanley's hammers
